13 Days of U2: Day 6

Rattle and Hum (1988)

"Helter Skelter":

“It’s a song Charles Mason stole from the Beatles, we’re stealing it back.” A cover can be laboriously boring when it mimics the original or it can be elevated into a new song that can stand alone. Helter Skelter is the latter.

"Van Diemans Land":

4 words…The Edge sings lead.

"Desire":

Bono has always been a staunch critic of “lunatic fringe preachers” that try and sell Christianity to the highest bidder, yet he also recognizes the fact that a rock and roll show can be a type of church. With that analogy he becomes the corrupted preacher selling music. Maybe that’s why he jokes that he has a messianic complex. It’s a human desire to be…desired.
