Mumford and Sons Hit No. 1

Mumford and Sons have reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with their third album Wilder Mind. This is the second time they have achieved this feat with their last album Babel hitting No. 1 after its release.

The interesting statistic for the music world deals with the number of pure album units sold. Wilder Mind reached No. 1 with 231,000 album units where Babel reached the same milestone with a staggering 600,000 album units sold. For you mathematicians out there, that’s 369,000 LESS…and they still hit No. 1.

The Mumford boys chose to release their full length album and its deluxe version on Spotify and likely lost out on revenue due to the choice (just as Taylor Swift or Jay Z), but don’t think these gentlemen of the road will be crying into their electric guitar amps. Marcus Mumford recently stated in an interview with the Daily Beast, “Bigger bands have other ways of making money, so I don’t think you can complain. A band our size shouldn’t be complaining.”
