Foo Fighters knocked it out of the park last night, with their anticipated official announcement regarding the future of the band. Hours prior to the announcement, various media outlets determined that the band was indeed taking a hiatus.
This incorrect jumping of the gun came solely from an interview drummer Taylor Hawkins gave Artisan News on January 16 where he stated,”We’re on an indefinite ihateus.” There had been issues between Grohl and Hawkins before, so music media outlets incorrectly assumed “the announcement” meant the worst.
But they could not have been more wrong.
And it brilliantly played into Foo Fighter’s plan.
In a sarcastic, over the top, 7 minute film, Grohl is seen talking to famous producer Butch Vig about his desire to go solo,”maybe it’s time” while the remaining members of the band plan for his replacement, “Phil Collins…the original…bigger than ever.” But as if the ridiculousness wasn’t already enough, the appearance of Nick Lechey singing “Everlong” put it over the top.
The video ended with a simple statement.
“FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME, WE’RE NOT BREAKING UP.
AND NOBODY”S GOING FUCKING SOLO.”
Enough Said.
